The Outer Shel
January 27 - March 7, 2009
By Shel Silverstein
Directed By Gary McDonald
“The moment before opening a book of Shel’s, seeing a play, hearing a song, reading a script or looking at a drawing of his was always filled with great anticipation… especially if Shel happened to be sitting with you waiting to get your take.”
This quote by Joe Cacaci is a sentiment shared by all that got to work with Shel including Gary McDonald, the Director of last year’s hit Shel Shocked. Through readings and full productions Shel shared and explored ideas with the Red Barn Theatre that became some of the most exciting and successful evenings at the theatre. Once again we invite you to the outer reaches of the imagination in a vehicle that could only be designed by Shel Silverstein. Join us as we tickle the child that lives in every adult’s mind. |

Steel Magnolias
March 17 - April 18, 2009
By Robert Harling
Directed by Joy Hawkins
The quintessential story of friendship, Harling’s enduring comedy Steel Magnolias, serves up a slice of life in small town Louisiana that’s as warm and tasty as sweet potato pie. In the haven of Truvy’s beauty salon, six very different women come together to share their secrets and bare their souls, throwing in a good bit of laughter and gossip for good measure. Life’s tumultuous events are weathered with grace, determination and perfectly coifed hair.
Hailed by The Daily News ... ”as resilient, funny, moving and bracing as its marvelous title characters”

Various Directors
andA Cast of Thousands
Once again we celebrate short attention span theatre with a new collection of fast paced and smartly funny 10 minute plays. The popularity of this new art form is evident throughout the country and some say it is the result of modern man’s diminished attention span. Whatever the reason, you will have no trouble gulping down a few of these hilarious pieces and heartfelt plays and come back for seconds.
As Terry Schmida of the Key West Citizen said “keep ‘em short , keep ’em laughing and keep ’em coming.”

November
Sunday/ Monday Series
February 8-9, 15-16, 22-23, March 1-2, 2009
By David Mamet
Directed by Carole MacCartee
David Mamet’s new oval office satire depicts one day in the life of a beleaguered American Commander-in-Chief. It’s November in a presidential election year, and incumbent Charles Smith’s chances for reelection are looking grim but he isn’t ready to give up just yet. A simple PR event of pardoning a couple of turkeys inspires Smith to risk it all in an attempt to win back public support. With Mamet’s characteristic noholds- barred style, November is a scathingly hilarious take on the state of America today and the lengths to which people will go to win.
